Citizen Commitment Week is more than a corporate responsibility action, it is an occasion for thought. It is the chance we are given to reassess the position that a bank – a privileged point of observation of the economic and social environment – must have with regard to the needs of the community.
Because the actions of a responsible organisation mean much more when each employee gets involved, our value is precisely the sum of the actions of each of us.
Last year we proved our implication and donated 5,500 hours of voluntary work to the benefit of UNICEF. EUR 50,000 were collected from our clients and invested in programs that prevent school abandonment.
It was a victory for the BRD team, a victory we will repeat this year, when we badly need solidarity. It is the way we prove our attachment to the community values and make our motto - “We invest in education and talent” - come true.
I invite you all to bring, during this Citizen Commitment Week, your own contribution to building a better world.
Because our effort matters

On June 17 -18, a team of 19 BRD volunteers paired up with 19 children from Ovidiu Rom’s After School program in Sector 5 to explore Bucharest’s Village Museum. The children were particularly curious about an old peasant hut, which was built partly underground and covered with reeds. One child wanted to know who “used to live there”. Both the children and the volunteers enjoyed picking cherries from a tree along the path!
One volunteer noted, “Wow, these children just need someone to stimulate their minds!”
BRD provided a picnic lunch, after which each child was presented with a classic children’s book, Aventurile lui Habarnam, by Nikolai Nosov. In pairs, volunteers and children sat in a circle and took turns reading out loud from the book. Cristi, a second grader who finished the year at the top of his class, proudly read the first lines.
When it was time to say goodbye, the BRD volunteers had one more gift: new backpacks. The children immediately tried them on for good measure and some even wore them for the rest of the bus ride home!
The After School Program takes place in Scoala 147, located in one of the poorest areas of Bucharest.
In Romania, 2 children out of 10 drop out school before the age of 14.
Our main mission during CCW was to collect funds from our customers for a UNICEF national program called “The future begins at school” with the ambition to reduce the percentage of children who drop out school.
More than 4,000 employees were engaged in this campaign, wearing UNICEF badges and promoting this program and the importance for every child to finish school.
Some say "sky is the limit" in doing something bold. But in BRD we say "heart is the limit” for this Citizen Commitment Week.
