The Citizen Commitment Week, a time when we show our sense of civil social responsibilities, has always been a special occasion for Societe Generale. It is also a signature of our corporate culture that makes us a trustworthy partner when it comes to business cooperation.
In the past two years, I am pleased to see that more and more staff in SG China has established a strong sense of civil social responsibilities. They have offered to help build up eleven Dream Centers (library/computer center in school) across the nation. Their frequent on-site visits have created a special bond between them and those rural kids.
Environmental protection has always been an internal part in SG's interpretation of civil social responsibilities. As an international corporation, SG has achieved a great deal in this regard.
I am also pleased to see during the preparation of China’ssixth branch in Hangzhou, we used large numbers of low-carbon decoration with recycling materials. Meanwhile, the usage of efficiency in water supply, heating and air-conditioning, and renewable energy has reached advanced international standards. Now we are applying for the authentication of “green certificate” to USGBC.
This year, we have chosen a new theme for CCW 2010 – “Let's Start a low-carbon life”. Several brand new projects will be launched accordingly, including “Green Food Day”, “Green Recycling Day”, “Save the Earth Day”, etc.
The continual efforts of SG China on civil social responsibilities have brought us permanent trust and respects from our customers. SG China will continue to carry out the corporate value of “develop together with customer” at present and also in the future.
Therefore, I hope our staff in SG China can also show their strong sense of protecting the environment as individuals.

Day 1 - in 15 minutes all healthy foods sold out!
In five branches of mainland China, the first-day activity of 2010 CCW begins in the morning of Jun 10. 2010 CCW of China has the themes of “let’s start a low-carbon life”. CSR team wants to remind the staff to focus on eat green and living in green during the busy working days.
As a symbol of low-carbon life, eating healthy green food is the first start. CSR teams arranged half-price sale of green foods to all staff with “first-come, first serve” principle. After 15 minutes of broadcasting sale news by email in the morning, all 150 servings of fresh juice or yogurt for five branches were sold out!
It’s a win-win situation. All money paid by staff will be donated to our partner association for helping the kids of remote area of China. Some staff paid more for the food in order to donate more. At the same time, our staff received health. Smiles on each person’s face; and all staff in the office were involved in the activity, although some of them did not have chance to enjoy the half-price foods. CSR believes that CCW’s activity today will let the staff at least to think about how to make the diet healthier tomorrow.
Day 2- Green lottery – more than RMB 3,000 donations collected!
The idea of “green lottery” was initiated by CSR team for the purpose of donation together with considering Day 2 activity must be in-office at a normal working day. With the lovely prize of green plant that can place on office desk, each staff can buy as much as they want. All lottery prices that staff paid will be donated to our partner association.
All staffs, especially our management, were involved in the activities and showed their love with buying lotteries. All five branches of mainland China has raised more than RMB 3,000 charities and totally more than 50 prizes of lovely plants wined by staffs.
Day 3 – Green recycling – small box hides the magic
In mainland China, although we have special factory or company to recycle battery, there is not each community has such environmental recycling vendor. The purpose of placing boxes of “green recycling” in each branch is to let staff to put wasted batteries or small recyclable stuff, then CSR team will contact professional vendor to do periodic recycling.
The green boxes are small, but it hided lots of wasted mobile phone battery, clock battery, even camera battery. We encourages our staff to not dispose wasted battery in normal trash at home; a small activity will save our future environment.
